A centrepiece doesn’t need to be grand. Often the most memorable tables are styled with very little: a single generous bowl, a handful of branches, and enough space around them to let the eye rest.
Start with one strong form
Choose a bowl or vessel with a shape you love from every angle — a footed bowl, a raw-edged form, a piece with visible texture. On a dining table, a wide, low bowl keeps sightlines open so conversation flows across it.
Add something gathered
Bare branches, dried grasses or a few stems of foliage bring height and movement without fuss. Keep to one type of stem for a calm, considered look, and let them lean naturally rather than arranging them too precisely.
Ground it with texture
A woven placemat or a folded linen runner beneath the bowl adds a soft layer and protects the table. Tones from the same family — clay, sand, rust — tie the arrangement together.
Leave room to breathe
Resist the urge to fill every surface. A single centrepiece with space around it reads as intentional; a crowded table reads as clutter. When in doubt, take one thing away.
